FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have been a Police K9 handler and trainer since 1997. I am a graduate of numerous trainer schools, and currently serve as the president of the American Working Dog Council.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
The trade of dog trainers is not well regulated. Anyone can call themselves a dog trainer. Many people work from home, and have no formal training as a trainer. They may have trained their own dog, or even worked for a trainer for a short time, but have no idea how to "teach". Training a dog is only a small part of being a trainer. You must be able to train the owner. We see trainer who have no training center. They claim training must be done in your home to be effective. This is incorrect. They claim to not need treats, no clicker, no ecollar, etc. This is because they dont understand advanced training, and they dont know how to use these tools. A good trainer will not dismiss any method before they see the dog, and evaluate the problem. Also, NEVER pay for an evaluation, the evaluation is not a training, it is for you to see if you like the trainer, and the methods they will use. It is for you, the customer, so do not pay for an evaluation, they should be free. Come tour our training center and let us show you want we can do to help you. Let us give you references of past clients. You can observe a current class, and talk to current clients. We are very transparent, and proud of our reputation of helping people and their dogs.
