Hired on Thumbtack

Hired to do a smaller remodel in our living room. New lighting, speakers, ceiling repair. We appreciated their attention to detail and “getting it right” attitude. Communication was excellent throughout the process. Would absolutely recommend and use again.

Details: Multiple room remodel • Living room • No existing plans, but have a good idea of what I want • No, the project is not covered by an insurance claim • Within the month

I recently had the pleasure of working with Shawn and his team to finish my basement. We’re very pleased with how the basement turned out – we’ve received lots of compliments on it. This started as a DIY project where I did the framing and ran out of time. He worked with me to take it over. Shawn and his team skillfully installed a bathroom, workout room, bedroom, bar, cat room, and kids play room – all totaling about 1,500 sq. feet. The quality of his work was great. His team ran over 2000 ft of electric wire and tied in all the plumbing into our home's existing plumbing system. I had pulled all the permits when I started the project, and Shawn managed (and exceeded) the current building code. They met all inspection standards. I also appreciated how he helped me future proof the basement. One example of this was I will have electric cars in the future, and he helped me run an extra 200amp service line to my electric panel from where it comes in the house (both ends are dead or unhooked up) for the day when I exceed what my current home’s service line/panel can handle. That would have been a real pain after the fact. One thing that sets Shawn and team apart is his trustworthiness. He and his team worked on our house even when we were out of town. If there is ever a subcontractor (think a drywall crew), they are always on-site to manage. His team always showed exceptional care throughout our home, especially mindful of our recently finished hardwood floors, ensuring no damage occurred. This level of consideration and respect for our property was greatly appreciated. I’m a nitpicky person, and they were great about working through punchout and little details at the end (something that was a pain on other projects with different contractors). They have an eye for details so there wasn’t much here. His partner (Keith) used to build high-end homes (soup to nuts). Shawn was a seasoned engineer before starting his contracting company. There was never a moment where I felt they didn’t know how to do something or that they wouldn’t do it the right way (v. getting it done). They were very reasonable about scope changes or incremental work that I added after the project started that wasn’t in the original scope. This is something that can be dicey with other contractors as they are already working on the project – but was always reasonable and never a concern on this project. On the topic of value and price – I bid out my basement to 3-5 contractors. Shawn wasn’t the cheapest or the most expensive but I feel more resolved after the work being done that we made the right choice. He doesn’t upcharge for materials and provides receipts if you want them. He also let me purchase things that I was particular about as long as it was there on time. The project ran a bit longer than anticipated, but that happens. There were a lot of factors that likely drove it (scope, time of year, etc.) and I wasn’t in a rush. I’m sure if time was more important, they could hit timelines. Given these experiences, I highly recommend Shawn for anyone needing a dependable and skilled contractor. His ability to handle complex projects with ease and adapt to changes, all while maintaining a high standard of work and respecting client property, makes him an ideal choice for home improvement projects.

Details: Residential • 1,001 - 1,500 sq. ft. • No, I will not be adding structural or weight-bearing features to my basement • Yes, I will be modifying or adding living space to my basement • Yes, my basement finishing or remodeling project will require electrical or plumbing work • No existing plans - need design suggestions

Shawn and his team were solid. Already considering them for other projects. Labor costs are very good when comparing to others. They are flexible and communicate well. They will pickup items for you during the project and they pivot well if something unexpected comes up and if new pieces are needed, they have no problem getting them. Most importantly, they respect your personal property and all while they are at your residence. I would highly refer them for your home remodeling project. Our main bathroom turned out great!! BTW, we wanted to paint the bathroom and when we took the pics, we weren't finished. *** FYI this was a 50 yr old main bathroom that had some drain and leaking issues. All was inspected, realized and fixed!!

I couldn’t be happier with my newly renovated bathroom. Shawn and his team ran into several issues but came up with workarounds that didn’t affect the looks of the finished project. I have recommended them to friends who are interested in renovations and will continue to do so.

SHULL was fantastic to work with! They were professional and responsive every step of the way. We were a bit nervous to hire a contractor for the first time but they were so attentive and easy to work with. For sure would hire them again.
