Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Check online reviews of any company that you intent to hire. Online reviews can give you a good idea of what your experience with the company of interest will be. Find out what others have said first so you can be sure to hire providers with a solid customer service background.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Over the phone estimates are inaccurate. There is no way to do anything other than take a blind guess. If a provider attempts to give you an estimate over the phone beware. He could be several hours or more off. This is one of the most common disappointments for customers. There is no substitute than an in home estimate. If a company is not willing to give you a free in home estimate do not deal with them... trouble abounds.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Are you insured? Make sure that the company you hire has both a general liability coverage in addition to motor carrier insurance. Many providers operate without insurance. This can be problematic in the event that something happens during the move. Remember that moving consists of people moving, lifting, bending, twisting, and pressing heavy pieces of furniture for hours on end. It is a high risk job and while most of the times things go smooth you want to be sure that you are covered if they don't. Ask about their insurance and the amount of coverage.
