Dogs Ltd & Training is owned and operated by Linda West, CPDT-KA. West is a certified professional dog trainer and a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers. West was certified in 2006 in the Safer Dog Aggression Test developed by Dr. Emily Weiss for the Kansas Humane Societies.

The dog aggression test is used by Dogs Ltd & Training to evaluate if dogs are a bite threat and dangerous. It is a humane and safe evalutation.

Dogs Ltd & Training is a full-service dog training facility specializing in evaluating and training aggressive dogs. Dog owners who have problems with dog aggression and their dogs lunging and growling on-leash can find professional and compassionate training solutions to stop the problem.

The dog aggression test lets dog owners see whether their dog is displaying learned behaviors that can be eliminated or if there is a temperament problem that is dangerous and how dangerous the problem is. This test lets dog owners know if training will cure the problem or if they will need to manage the dog-aggression problem.

Dog owners enjoy the relaxed and cozy atmosphere of the training facility. The dog owners feel confident and safe in learning techniques to get their dog under control and change their dog's attitude so that the lunging and growling is eliminated.

Graduates of the training program love being able to go everywhere with their best buddies.

Linda, I can't thank you enough for succeeding in changing Bella's attitude. We rescued Bella (my 86 lb Black and Tan Coonhound) from the Humane Society a little over 2 years ago. She was dumped by her prior owners at about 1 year old because "she was too much to handle." And, I have to admit, she definitely has been a challenge! She has a sweet disposition and is not aggressive, but had no impulse control and was very reactive in new situations. Bella has changed a lot over the last 2 years with all the classes we have taken, but yours really got her to turn the corner. Your techniques and knowledge would work with any dog, but your intimate knowledge of the hound personality was particularly helpful because you taught me what is possible to change about Bella's behavior and what is not. Bella and I are about to begin our second class with you -- as far as I'm concerned, this is frosting on the cake. After just 1 session in the first class, Bella was off the pinch collar (which I had been using for nearly 2 years) and on the gentle leader without pulling my arm off when I walk her! She's much calmer, and I think she's much happier not being so reactive to strange people, sounds, and dogs. Your desensitization strategy really works! Now my best buddy and I CAN and do go everywhere together.

After spending $$$$ with other professional dog trainers and not learning much, I decided to take my leash aggressive dog to Linda West. I found her method of training to be easy to follow and best of all fun. True, I have had a lot of obedience training experience so I knew that if I was to be successful, I would have to practice what my dog and I were taught during class sessions. I was taught simple little "games or tricks" to get my dog to concentrate on me during an encounter with a target. I learned how to remain calm and confident in my ability to be in control of my dog. Her instructions have helped me to enjoy our dog walks so much more. We work on our "games" every day and I find that my dog is so much calmer when I ask her to perform what we have learned from Linda's class. Thank you Linda

Linda West is a highly specialized and experienced dog trainer. I came to her initally having agression problems with my dog. She made valuable and correct assessments that prevented further dangerous situations. With another very stubborn dog, she made training so easy I couldn't believe it! I had tried doing these things on my own, then with 2 "economy" trainers. After just 15 minutes with Linda, I was elated. Linda's easy-to-follow and professional guidance made working with this stubborn dog really fun. I found the other trainers inconsistent and guessing. Linda, however, is knowlegable, consistent and very reliable. From being a client over the years I came to see some of the dogs with serious aggression she helped. I am still amazed when I think of the change in these dogs. If you've got a dog who has major aggression, a slight issue, or you just want the best basic training, Linda is your best resource in Bend.
She is safe, consistent and knowlegable. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my dog.

I had trouble with my dog lunging and growling when I had him on leash. I didn't like to walk "Bruno" in public because he made such a racket when he saw other dogs. It was embarrassing.
After six weeks of private lessons with Dogs Ltd I am able to take "Bruno" with me when I go places and not be embarrassed.

Question and answer

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. One of the biggest secrets to training dogs is the owner's attitude and confidence. Confidence comes from learning how to be physically in control of their dog. That makes such a huge difference in how a dog responds.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Dogs Ltd & Training is the only dog training facility in Central Oregon that has a certified aggression test. The Safer Dog Aggression Evaluation was developed by Dr. Emily Weiss for the Humane Societies of Kansas to determine if incoming dogs were a bite or aggression threat. ASPCA SAFER™ is a humane and safe method to determine if dogs are a bite or attack threat.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Working with leash reactive, aggressive dogs is fun because their owners are so surprised at how much progress their dogs make in just six weeks of training. They are able to take their dogs places in public that they never thought it would be possible to go. Their dogs are behaving and relaxed around other dogs. It is a thrill to see the behavior changes.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. My clients ask me if it is really possible to train their dog so it will behave around other dogs and not lunge and growl on leash.

I tell them,"Definitely Yes!" When their dog passes the Safer Dog Aggression Test, we know that the behavior was learned and can be changed.
I help them understand that the problem will go away when we gain control of the dog and change their dog's emotional response to seeing other dogs.
