Klassic Tails Inn is a dog and cat country boarding kennel serving the greater Eugene-Springfield and Western Oregon Areas. It is an owner-occupied family run business. We are unique in that we can offer a very personal approach to your pets needs because we are such a small boarding facility.
Klassic Tails Inn is your very special pet's home away from home. Our mission is to provide an individual, safe, clean and enriching environment for every pet boarding with us.
We always welcome kennel tours during regular business hours.
Our K-9 Kennel and House Locations:
Your pets are our guests to be pampered coddled, and catered to in our spacious kennel rooms or the house courters. From the massive Mastiff to the tiny little Maltese, they can play, chew on a bone, stretch out, or curl up in a draft free corner to nap. The doors to their very own, 12 ft. long, outdoor runs are opened all day for exercise.
We also provide 3 times a day unleashed (freedom) turn outs into special graveled and partially covered outdoor play yards for dogs to romp, play, enjoy shade or sunshine, or just sniff around while exploring the forest that surrounds the kennel facility always protected from sudden rainstorms.
Breakfast starts at 8:00 AM, and dinner at 5:00 PM. Treats are given at noon just before siesta time, and of course, fresh water is available at all times.
At night when the lights are lowered, soft classical music fills the air. As we make the last rounds to say goodnight to each guest, fluff up their beds, give the last medications and a little bedtime treat, the kennel becomes a large dormitory, with sleepy kids ready to call it a day cuddled up in their blankets, or stretched out in relaxed contentment, tails wagging ever so softly, thumping a gentle goodnight message for us.
Our Cattery:
Safe from the curious eyes of our canine guests, your cat can enjoy a relaxing stay with us at Klassic Tails Inn.
Each suite comes with soft bedding for comfortable catnaps, and twice-daily room service delivery of your felines favorite food. Maid service is also offered three times a day (and more if needed) to ensure a clean and healthy environment.
If your feline feels the need to explore or just relax in the window seat exploring the wooded surroundings all can be done in our safe and nurturing cattery.
Located in private quarters next to the office, our staff is always nearby to provide extra attention and treats throughout the day. At night, soft classical music and comfortable temperatures allow for a pleasant nights rest.

This is a great kennel. They are not just a clean and well run boarding service, THEY KNOW DOGS. This is our third experience here. We have 2 small poodles. One happily adjusts to the excitement of kennel life but the other, a 3 year old, is highstrung and can be anxious. When we left this time, he refused to eat anything for 3 days. Jim and Michelle tried multiple approaches. We spoke with them by phone about the issue and problem solved together. Between the 4 of us, we were able to find an approach that had Mitch eating by mid-day 4. It involved extra time from kennel staff - standing with the dogs throughout their twice a day feeds and "commanding" Mitch to eat when he dawlded, but the staff readly accepted the approach, repeatedly saying they just wanted to help Mitch eat. The remaining week of Mitch's stay, he did eat with their help. These owners care about the dogs. We highly recommend them.

When we take our basenjis to Klassic Tails Inn, I always tell them they're going to "summer camp." Really, it reminds me of the camp where I went as a child, all woodsy and peaceful out in the country. It's a trek from east Eugene, but one we're more than willing to make because of the confidence we have in Jim and Michelle and their staff to provide the best care possible for our (sometimes challenging) dogs.

Our dog has stayed at Klassic tails three times now, and it is a first for our new 4 month old this week. I love everything about the place. First: You walk into the office...and it doesn't have that musty dog smell, it actually smells like an office. Second: The entire grounds are kept very clean and picked up. Third: They let the dog(s) out three times a day for some fresh air and exercise (on leash). Fourth: You can pay a little extra for them to run your dogs with a tennis ball for 45 minutes ($10/ea session). Fifth: It is a very affordable stay, even for two dogs...with extended exercise sessions, at least every other day! This is the only place that we have left our dogs where they don't get depressed when we leave for extended periods of time. When we drop them off they are excited to go in, which is amazing considering they are both very stubborn pups. They are able to stay in the same kennel together and are very comfortable. All in all, we are very happy with Klassic Tails Inn and will continue to leave our dogs there whenever it is necessary

A. The Importance of Good Staff
Staff should be welcoming, interested in, and like animals! Dogs are social animals and fare best when kind, empathetic & professional staff care for them. Find kennels where staff are friendly, polite and interact easily with dogs & customers, and where there is sufficient staff to give individual care.
Good staff are expensive, especially if they are well trained, so expect to pay more for a better service - the cost won't be much more than the price of a cappuccino or two - but will make a HUGE difference to your dog's wellbeing. If you only see very young, inexperienced staff (ask about their training and how long they have been working with animals).
Kennel quality
Don't make the mistake of thinking all kennels are the same... I promise you they're not - no two kennels are ever the same!!
GOOD = Relaxed & Calm:
• New & maintained
• Light & bright
• Hygienic (no smell)
• Ventilation/Heating/Air Conditioning
• BIG sizes - Fewer kennels
BAD = Stressful & Noisy:
• Old and unmaintained
• Dark and dingy
• Unhygienic (smelly)
• No windows/ small windows
• No heating or Air Conditioning in the kennel
• Small sizes
• Lots of kennels
Walks & Exercise
If the kennels claim to walk all able dogs, look at how long, and then do the sums to see if there are enough staff to make this possible. When you visit are dogs being walked/ exercised? 'Ambles' might be more suitable for elderly or special needs dogs - remember to tell them.
For quality walks and time playing with your dog - you really want to find a higher quality service with fewer kennels (30 or less) - and for a little more expense know your dog's wellbeing is important to the kennels. At such caring places, your dog will be out in the fresh air enjoying walks, just as they do at home.
Why comfort items are important
Providing your dog's own bedding, toys and chews, plus something you have worn & smells familiar, can help your dog to relax & settle in much faster. Good kennels who care deeply about dog welfare will ALWAYS use the comfort items you provide - and will prompt you to bring them!
Kennels that are very busy and have high numbers will not usually allow your dog to bring comfort items. They do not have the staff numbers or time to manage, clean around or remember your dogs items.
Unknowledgeable or just plain uncaring kennels will leave your items unopened and unused - so there is nothing that will give dogs the comfort of their home or owners smell, so they take much longer to settle in, or don't settle well at all.
We all know what an amazing sense of smell dogs have - don't deprive them of such a simple, free comfort factor.
Special Needs & Care
Special care is needed for vulnerable dogs, such as puppies, elderly dogs, disabled dogs, dogs on medication, nervous/fearful dogs, or dogs with a high activity level. These dogs will need special care and will require extra time to ensure that all their needs are met.
You may be surprised to discover that different kennels specialise in different types of dogs.
Larger or very busy kennels may have a policy not to take on dogs with certain characteristics or requirements. This may be because their kennels are too stressful for dogs with special needs, it takes too much time, does not fit in with their core clientelle or policies etc.
It is particularly important to search carefully for the best kennels for your dog if they have special needs.
Why room types matter
Solid walls help provide a quieter, calmer atmosphere which will be more enjoyable to stay in. They make it easier for staff to attend to dogs one-on-one, giving them full attention. The walls should be at least 4ft/1.2m high - but full height walls provide the most privacy and reassurance.
Why kennel height is Important
Full height (6ft/2m) kennels are best because they make dogs feel more secure, more like a room at home AND it's easier for staff to clean the kennels thorougly if they don't have to bend.
Why runs should be attached
Attached exercise runs allow dogs freedom to move between sleep & toiletting/outside areas. Choices and views are much better for dog welfare and stress levels. Being able to look at a garden or wildlife is ideal. Avoid kennels where dogs can see into another run (e.g facing another row of runs in a building opposite). Facing lots of other dogs, or seeing dogs come and go, or get out is frustrating, stressful and therefore very noisy.
NEVER use kennels that force your dog to stay in one area for sleeping, eating and toileting (i.e the sleeping area only if there is no attached run). Being confined to just one area gives dogs no choice about where to be, what to look at, or to hide away if they want to.
Why runs should be covered
Covered runs protect exercise runs & dogs from bad weather (you don't want your dog to be in a constantly open or damp environment)
