Question and answer
Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.
A. There are a few common areas that are frequently seen in both home and business.
First is virus removal. There are so many types of virus attacks; it can be a dangerous place for a PC. To name a few: Worms, Trojan horse, Boot-sector; macro, Memory, Root-kit, Mal-ware, Hijack, resident and Web-script. Arming yourself with the best protection is very important.
Second is failed hardware. There are hardware components that tend to fail more than others. Hard Drives, Power Supplies, Video cards and Motherboards are among those. Maintaining a cool and clean environment will increase the life of the PC.
Third is Data Migration and Backup. It is crucial that you determine a backup plan and put it in place. Even if your computer dies, most of the time if your hard drive is still working, we can get that data! If the hard drive does die, ensuring you have a backup in place will protect your files!
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Dealing with a broken computer can be a difficult process to manage, especially if it's not something you have dealt with before. Finding the right company to assist you can make all the difference in the world.
Adept offers a variety of services. These services cover almost every imaginable scenario, from virus removal to business networking; or perhaps you're looking to buy a new PC or maybe just find out some information. Simply stop in, give us a call, or send an email.
Our staff is highly experienced, and we've been in business for over 30 years. We are here to help you, you only have to ask!
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. There are several Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What is your Minimum Labor Charge?
A: Our Minimum Labor is $50. It's $50 to diagnose the problem with your PC, if you decide to have that PC repaired, the $50 is waived.
Q: What do you charge? Is it per hour? Flat Rate?
A: We have two different charges, one for on-site service, and one for in-shop service. Our in-shop rate is $95.00 an hour, and is capped at 1.5 hours for almost all scenarios. Our Onsite Service is $100.00/hr and is not capped. Determine which service is right for you by contacting us.
Q: Can You Tell Me How Many Billable Hours This Might Take to Fix?
A: We can never be completely certain until proper checks have been made. We will not charge more than 1 hour to 1.5 hours unless arranged ahead of time. This does not include price of replacement parts.
Q: How long will you have my computer?
A: We quote a 24-48 hour turn-around time for most projects. Occasionally situations will demand more time depending on the amount of customers in-line, or if a part needs to be ordered. However often-times we will get your PC back to you within a day!
Q: Should I Expect Any Charges Other Than the Hourly Rate?
A: If you purchase parts or software, they will be separate charges.
Q: Do you provide Remote Support?
A: We do; charges for this vary and are setup ahead of time. Call or e-mail if you have questions concerning remote support.
Q: Do you repair printers?
A: We do not work on printers; some small things can be fixed though. In most cases it's cheaper to buy a new printer than to spend money having it fixed.

5.0 star rating

After Adept saved me for the fourth time*, I figured a 5-star review was the least I could do for them.
We've all been there: over-worked, under-motivated, out-computered. Am I right? Last week I experienced my official, THIRD, mechanical hard drive failure. There's nothing in this world that makes my voice quiver, reduces my knees to jell-o, and causes me to break out in a cold sweat quite like the death rattle of my insufficiently backed-up hard drive. I think this fear stems from the loss of my undergraduate thesis many moons ago. As an undergraduate, a failed hard disk meant re-typing hundreds of pages in the Oregon State computer lab in the basement of Kidder. No Adept for me at that time!
But now, with the comforts of a disposable income and the knowledge that data retrieval is imminently possible, I find refuge in the services of Adept Computing. In two out of three attempts, my data were safely transferred to a new hard drive for a reasonable price between $100 - $150. All three times, Adept has been available, competent, fair, and timely with their services. Unfortunately for me, on this most recent occasion, the data from an external hard drive were not able to be salvaged by Adept. This meant I had to ship my paper weight off to Tennessee for dismemberment in a "clean room," with hopes that for a higher price ($700 - $2000) the data can be recovered. Gulp.
So the moral of this story is two-fold: (1) I apparently break computers more than the average Jane and need to find a place for secure and confidential home backups (anyone have any suggestions?) (2) Adept is quite facile at solving nearly all computer gaffs quickly and for a good price. They are a great "plan B" for those of us who find ourselves in situations where we are outmatched by our machines.
*For interested readers concerned about what the fourth "save" was, it included a re-formatting of an old hard drive for use on a new machine.
