Contact Sacred Pathways Doula Services about services »
I provide prenatal, labor, breastfeeding and postpartum support to mothers from all walks of life. I truly believe that every woman deserves a doula, though not every woman needs a doula. It is my goal to help women make sure they have the best birth for themselves and their babies. I serve the metro area of Portland and offer a variety of payment options and sliding scale for those who have a low income.
I have been working with women for over two years, and I am constantly striving to increase my skill set. I am DONA and Birth Arts International trained. I work closely with a variety of midwives and lactation consultants in the area to better serve women.
A. It is always important to not just go with someone based on price. When it comes to pregnancy, birth, and postpartum it is vital that you feel you can trust and work intimately with your doula. I always encourage potential clients to contact at least one other doula, because we all do things differently. I work with many other doulas and can provide referrals if needed.
A. Doulas do not replace your care provider. We are not midwives nor are we, usually, trained to do any medical procedures. In fact as a Doula we are generally prohibited from performing any medical procedure, such as checking blood pressure or dilation in labor. Some Doulas do offer this service, but they are considered a Montrice more than a Doula.
A. Do you have a referral list?
How do you feel about medicalized births?
I want an epidural as soon as I get to the hospital, will you still support me?
I have chosen to be induced, what are your suggestions?
How do you feel about Cesarean Sections?
Will you be able to work with my husband/partner/friend during my birth?
A. The most important one is where you are planning to give birth and with whom. This will help the doula to have some idea of what to expect as some hospitals and birth centers, and even homebirth midwives, treat Doulas differently.
A. I think it is important for my clients to have every option possible. I work with them and their care providers to make sure that happens. In some cases I have gone above and beyond to help ensure a woman gets the birth she really wants, despite the obstacles in her way.
