About Hennatopia

Whether you are looking for entertainment for a younger or an older audience, I have you covered. I provide all natural (NOT BLACK) henna that I mix myself, Face Painting for all ages, glitter tattoos which everyone loves, and basic balloon twisting to spice up the party.

You can choose up to two of these services for every two hours that you book me and each one gets an hour, or more, of time devoted to them. Great combos include face painting and balloon animals, glitter tattoos and henna, and face painting and glitter tattoos. All services are billed on an hourly basis and parties are a minimum of two hours.

My henna services can include everything from small intimate gatherings where everyone gets complex designs, to rowdy Grad Night Lock-Ins where I'm doing fast and fun designs for as many students as want them. The line usually never ends on a Grad Night!

If you are wanting face painting I offer everything from complex special effects to fast festival faces. I started painting faces when I was a teen and am always improving my skills through online courses, practice, and working with other artists. Your company picnic or birthday party will be the talk on everyone's lips with this great addition, and kids of all ages love it.

Glitter tattoos are a fun add on, but can be great all on your own. Oh sure, you've seen the kits on TV, but they can be difficult to work with and they fade quickly. I use a higher grade body-safe glue as well as having 100, or so, different designs to choose from. In addition to the stencils I offer, I also can do freehand designs of most of the henna designs in my extensive design booklets.

While I don't claim to be a master balloon twister, I can bring you the basics and a bit more. Kids love having swords and shields for their imaginary battles, or poodles to lead around on imaginary leashes. Flowers and wands can make for a magical party as can super silly and crazy hats. This is a great add on to any of the above services offered.

Hourly rates vary depending on the size of your event and what supplies I need to bring, so please contact me for more information, or check out my website.

Kelly had this to say, "Thank you to Ana Warren of Blooming Lotus Henna and Veronica Lacquement of Hennatopia for the beautiful Henna rose and decorations on me and my daughter's hands today at the renaissance faire. We had fun and love our henna designs."

Thank you for doing face painting at our fairy birthday party! Everyone was thrilled with their beautiful, colorful, glittery faces. We will definitely look to use Hennatopia again for any events we need face painting for!

The 6 year old birthday girl says, "This painter is really good at doing cat faces and she does her painting very carefully!"

Question and answer

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Never ever get something called Black Henna. This is not true henna, but black hair dye. It contains a chemical called Para-phenylenediamine. Some people will not react to it, the majority of people will and usually with very serious reactions. PPD can burn the skin leaving second and third degree burns. It can also cause anaphylactic shock. Avoid this dangerous chemical at all costs, it is not worth the harm it can do to you.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I offer a lot of contemporary as well as fandom designs. In addition I do a lot of tattoo trial pieces for people who want to see how a design will look. Every artist has their own style, and I like to think of mine as fun and flowy.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I love the wide array of people I get to meet and talk too. I've had the most interesting conversations with four to eighty four year olds sitting in my chair. Plus I really love being able to be artistic and putting my first love to use making people happy.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. What is Henna?
Henna is a plant that grows in warm regions that often have monsoon seasons. The leaves are harvested and dried, then ground into a powder. I buy the powder and mix all my own henna.
How long will it last?
The amount of time henna will last varies from person to person as well as where the design is placed. The average amount of time is two weeks. Arms and legs are the best places to get henna, neck and head are the worst.
How do I wash off the face paint?
Soap and water! You can also use baby wipes if those are not handy.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. Though it is a tradition that came from the middle east (India, Iran, Africa, etc) it does not mean an American girl doesn't have the talent to use it well. I love the ritual and tradition of henna and love partaking in the ceremonies it was born in, but I am often turned away because of the color of my skin and not being raised in the cultures these ceremonies come from. Despite being American born I have made a concerted effort to learn a lot about the history and tradition of henna, and find that my work is as good as that of people raised steeped in the tradition.
Basically, don't judge a book by its cover. Look at the gallery first! ;)
