Have a couple of songs ready because I am going to train you to play music that you want to play, and I am going to customize your lesson to take you where you want to be, as fast as possible.

Lessons on the fine art of guitar playing or finding the pocket and grooving the bass can be given either at your home or at my studio.

I am a guitar and bass player with 15 years of experience. I have a BA degree in music theory and composition, jazz bass, and classical guitar from SIUC. My previous employment includes work at the School of Rock here in Portland and the Lesson Factory in Eugene, OR.

I have taught students of different ages (7 to 65) in varied styles: rock, blues, heavy metal, classical, jazz, bluegrass, flamenco, advanced shred technique, classic rock, klezmer, indian ragas, avante, etc. I have also provided lessons on theory, ear training, and even counterpoint and twentieth century composition techniques.

A professional jazz bass player, I can also teach a variety of techniques: avant-garde or experimental, blues, classical, double bass, funk, jazz, and rock.

I like using technology, e.g., Guitar Pro software, YouTube, and an unlimited source of MP3s, in my lessons to further enhance the experience.

More importantly, I know how to get results, make lessons fun and educational, and develop solid relationships with long- and short-term students.

A one-hour lesson is $30; thirty-minute tune-up, $20.
