Introduction: Meet and greet: Would you like to get up close and personal with a horse and see for yourself why these beautiful animals garner so much affection? Maybe you’ve thought about riding a horse or taking lessons but felt unsure about being around a horse, or maybe you’ve always been a bit afraid and would like to conquer your fear? Here is your chance to come out and see what it is all about. Come spend some time with one of our beautiful animals. Let us give you a brief introduction into the life of a horse. We will show you how to safely approach a horse, how to say ‘hi,’ how much they love to be brushed, and how soft their noses are. The Basics and Groundwork 101 (for you and your horse): * The Basics - I thought my horse had issues when I got him. He would not lunge, would not follow me, and he did not even want to lower his head for me to put a halter on him. After a lot of trial and error, some lessons, research, and a bunch of questions, I realized that he knew these things. I just did not know how to ask for them. Let me come to you and show you the basics or give you a hand with all those odd little things that are stopping you from enjoying your horse. * Groundwork 101 – Yes, there were a lot of things I needed to learn but my horse did have issues. He crowded me when we walked. He would not get out of the way when needed. He was jumpy and freaked out if there were any other horses around. Not only do these kinds of issues interfere with your relationship with your horse, but they can also be safety concerns. A consistent groundwork routine worked wonders with AJ, and it can help you and your equine partner as well. Let me help cure some of your horse’s bad habits. Lessons: Judy offers horsemanship and riding lessons to all levels and all ages at Sauvie Island Stables. Do you want to learn how to control your horse from the saddle? Do you want to take your horse out to a trail, tack up, and jump on with the confidence that your horse is not going to spoke at every leaf that floats by on the ground? Maybe you need to brush up on your horsemanship skills. Maybe you would like to start showing again. Come on out and let us see where we can take you. Let us show you how you can gain control of your horse and how the end of the ride turns out. We have a few open times for new (brand new or new to us) riders to come out for riding lessons. Let us know your level of riding skills and what you are interested in. Do you need something else? Give us a call and let’s see if we can help you in any way.
