Ella has been a great resource for Boora on lighting design. She has a great eye for how to accentuate our design with lighting and is always helpful in pulling additional fixture options to achieve the desired aesthetic.

I have worked with Ella Mills, principal of Biella Lighting, on multiple projects over the past four years. Along with many of my colleagues at Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Architects, I hold her in the highest regard as a design professional. Ella is a true partner in design. As a consultant, she integrates into the architectural design team seamlessly. Her design acumen, professionalism and collaborative approach are appreciated by the architectural design team as well as by our clients. For all of us, she is trusted advisor for lighting solutions that enhance the architecture while meeting the technical and budgetary requirements of the project.

Question and answer
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Meet with the prospective designer to make sure you have a connection and the right rapport with this person.
You will most likely be working with him/her for the next several months or longer and it is very important to work with someone who not only has a great portfolio and design skills, but is also enjoyable and easy to work with.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. There is a lot to know about lighting. It is always advisable to learn as much as possible. Customers should do their due diligence on styles, technology and have an idea of what they would like to see, but be open to other suggestions and ask questions about things they don't know or don't understand.
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. What other projects of this type have you done?
What is the style that you are working in?
Why should I hire you rather than another designer?
What is your background and/or experience in the field?
What makes you qualified to work on my project?
