My sister and I have been training with Sifu Rick Cropper for the past 9 years and continue to be students of his. He's the best teacher out there and really knows his stuff. He works with his students individually to help them succeed in the Art. He pushes his students and truly cares about them as if they were his own family. He's extremely respectful and loves to have fun. He goes above and beyond for his students and helps them every little step of the way. He makes sure that everyone stays safe and in a good mood all throughout class. No one is ever left behind. The whole school works through material together and everyone helps each other. He goes into great detail and depth to help the students better understand the curriculum as well as get more involved and more excited about it. If you're looking to find a place to train at, now you've found it. Although now it's called Rick Cropper Martial Art Center and located at 8040 ste B SE Stark St. Portland, OR

I have been a student at the Stark Street Academy of Kung Fu for the past 14 years and I am now training to be a student teacher. Sifu Cropper has a deep understanding and appreciation for the art that he teaches and passes onto his students. Sifu Cropper is a strict but compassionate teacher that fosters the talents of each individual student so that they may grow and better themselves in a safe environment. Without a doubt, I would recommend this school to anyone who wants to have a rich and fulfilling martial arts experience in an environment where they are accepted as part of a large martial arts family. The new name of the business is the Rick Cropper Martial Arts Center located at 8040 SE Stark Street Suite B Portland Oregon.

I've been at the school for a while now. Since then I've earned my Black Belt and I still continue to come to classes, because despite the immense amount of material and training required to earn your black Belt, Sifu Cropper still has so much more to impart on his students. Classes are always fresh and it's rare when you feel stuck, especially with all the individual attention you receive. If you want to learn or specialize in something you are given that opportunity! You are never lost in the back of the class like many other schools (Martial arts and beyond) you are acknowledged and your development always seems to be a priority. Sifu Earnestly wants you to succeed. The school is small, but we are all warm and welcoming. You're pretty much guaranteed to have a great time.

I am an instructor under Sifu Rick Cropper. I teach the Thursday class in the basics of our style - Ch'uan Fa Kajukenbo. My fight training started in the barrios of the South Bronx where I learned Hung Gar and 'street' Goju-Ryu. When I moved to Portland I wanted to train in a style that was street savvy and had kung-fu flair; I found that in my first exposure to Kajukenbo under sifu Fred King. From there I stayed in the kajukenbo family and trained under sifu Al Dacascos' Wun Hop Kuen Do system. After a hiatus of too many years I moved to SE Portland and found sifu Rick Cropper's school. I wanted to stay in the Kajukenbo system and his kwoon was the perfect fit. I have trained there for over 7 years and I am proud to have earned my black belts under him. The key word in Kajukenbo is family (not thuggery as an earlier poster suggested.) As family we treat each other with respect as we learn how to kick ass. If there is one thing I can say about Mr. Rick Cropper (excuse me while I use his proper name, I am speaking of him as a person,) is that he is great with kids, whether they be his own or his students. If you are looking for tough, effective training in a friendly environment check out our school. My name is SiHing Efrain Palermo, third degree black belt in the art of Ch'uan Fa Kajukenbo under sifu Rick Cropper. If you like to speak to me about any of my comments or just hang out and watch us train, my hours at the school are Thursdays 6-7, 7-8. Thank you.

He is violent, and threatens to harm the teenage students that he works with for not complying, even with things beyond their control. Moreover he laughs at the pain of his adult training partners, and intentionally does not stop when they tap out.
