I have over ten years of experience tutoring, and I have worked with everyone, from elementary school students to adults.
I specialize in teaching mathematics, but I have also worked with students of Spanish. I also offer general study skills, including improved essay writing, preparing for oral presentations, and developing good study habits.
I have college degrees in my areas of specialization, and have lived and studied in Barcelona, Spain for three years.
I'm very good at breaking complex concepts into manageable pieces. I work to make the material engaging, especially in math, and have an excellent track record with math-phobic students. I have also worked successfully with students with learning disabilities such as ADHD, Asperger's syndrome and dyslexia.
My rates reflect a sliding scale depending on the student's needs and level. Please contact me, or visit my web page for more information.

Question and answer
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. I begin by fostering a personal connection between my students and the material. This creates interest in learning, and helps the student to remember and build on what they've learned. All lessons are tailored to the individual student, and designed around their particular learning needs and goals.
I work hard to break confusing concepts into manageable pieces, and also provide my students with a deeper understanding of how all those pieces come together to form a whole. This is an amazingly effective approach for both math and Spanish.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. I love knowing I've made a difference in the day of my students. Watching a student who struggled grasp and master a complicated concept is one of the joys of teaching, and as a tutor I get to be right there to see it happen. If I can turn a student's attitude toward a subject, that's even better.
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. How long have you been teaching?
I've been tutoring math and Spanish for 10 years, and I taught Spanish at the University of Oregon for two years.
What's your teaching style?
I work very hard to be a good communicator, which means I have a very flexible teaching style. I've worked with visual learners and students who needed a more theoretical approach. My main goal is to help students internalize concepts so they can use them on their own.
How often do you meet with students?
This varies student to student, but a rule of thumb is one or two sessions a week of one hour each. Lessons never go longer than two hours on one day.
When are you available?
Please contact me or visit my web site for the most up-to-date availability.
Can you help me or my student prepare for a specific exam?
Yes. I am happy to work with students to prepare for specific exams either as part of a course they are taking, or for standardized exams like the Praxis, SAT/ACT or SSAT/ISEE.
