Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. The cost of shingles is only about half the material cost on average, the rest comes from the flashings, fastners, and felt. Good tradesmen in the industry take the time to get the right flashings and underlayments and apply them right, they also cost more. That is why you can see such variations in price. Getting a roof isn't buying a commedity, its paying for a service.
