Introduction: Have you always wanted to sing, but just don't think you can? Have you always thought that singing is for other people, for those "talented" and "gifted" people? Do you think you have to be "born with it" in order to be a singer? Well, I'm here to tell you, you don't! Singing is a learned skill, and I'm here to teach you the tools you need to get better at it.
Hi, I'm Ali! I help singers like you expand your voice into what you always dreamed (and maybe never even before could have imagined) was possible. I help you learn to sing with more ease, confidence, and most importantly, more JOY.
My lessons are uniquely tailored to your specific needs. I teach from a neuroscience and evidence-based perspective, and I also bring in my background of somatics, yoga, mindfulness, and habit formation into each lesson. You will also be provided with warm-up exercises to practice between sessions, and a way to send me videos or voice memos for feedback. I also provide practice and habit formation support.
We make funny sounds, laugh a fair bit, get silly, and I invite self-compassion and kindness into the space as much as we can. Singing can be quite vulnerable and I strive to create as safe and supportive container for learning as possible.
***I'm currently offering a free 30 minute trial lesson until mid-September!***
A little more about me:
I've been singing since I was a wee kid, but I was never really a "natural" at it. I struggled with strain, over-singing, performance anxiety, and losing my voice frequently. I was a late bloomer, and didn't really get into performing until I was 21, when I attended a conservatory college for Musical Theater. It was there I blossomed into the performer I eventually became. I graduated from the University of Alberta in Canada with an MFA in Musical Theater and Vocal Pedagogy. I performed in professional musical productions for the next 10 years.
I am also a certified yoga teacher, a registered massage therapist, and a craniosacral therapist. I've been practicing and teaching yoga for over a decade, and practicing bodywork for 5 years. I am also a trauma-informed practitioner with a deep fascination with the nervous system and how learning works from a neuroscience perspective.
I have been teaching voice lessons for 5 years, and love teaching adults 16+ how to sing. I teach online and in-person lessons (in Portland, OR), and teach all styles of contemporary music.
I also write and perform my own music and have been doing that for about 5 years as well. My style is pop-folk and I write and perform on the piano and the guitar, with vocals being the main event.
Come sing with me and expand to your full potential as a singer!
