FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My current base rate is $64.00/hour (there will be a slight increase this fall) but I charge a term tuition. There are 3 terms during the academic year and one 6 or 7 week summer term. There are additional charges for music or other materials.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am constantly studying. In addition to continuous lessons with a master teacher, Don Lehmann, for the last 35 years or so, I am a voracious reader in the areas of education theory and practice, music performance and history, all the arts, special education and everything else I can find. I belong to a piano pedagogy study group which has met continuously weekly for 25 years. I attend workshops offered by publishers and keep up with an on-line piano teachers' forum for new ideas and materials. I develop my own games and resources to use as need or inspiration arises.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
When I got out of college I got a great job with the university. I had a good salary, lots of vacation time, a staff, a budget, etc. etc. etc. Trouble is, I hated that job. I loved music and I loved working with one person at a time. So I quit about 30 years ago and have never regretted it. I apprenticed to a master teacher, Don Lehmann, who had been my teacher since childhood and have spent the last 30 years working on the art and craft of piano playing and teaching. It is a great life.
