Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Look for longevity and someone you can talk to. Many computer people are great at what they do, but can't string 2 words together or just flat out don't listen to what you want. Instead, they give you what they think is best for you. I would never do that. I am happy to give some advice, but you're the boss, so I'm going to do what you want.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Everyone knows someone who took a class in "web design" in high school, or at the local college. What most people don't understand is that there is a big difference between making a web page and developing a web site that is visually appealing and easy to navigate. That's where a professional web developer comes into play. As with most things in life, you get what you pay for and a "great deal" is often that way for a reason.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. How long have you been in business and do you have a portfolio? Longevity is a big deal. Just as big is the breadth of experience. If all I've ever done is websites for property managers, I'm going to have a tough time making a website for your flooring company. Flexibility is as important as creativity.
