Portland Tree Care did a wonderful job cutting down and hauling away a tree that fell at my mothers house in Gresham. They also removed another tree for her that was still standing. Excellent job and I would recommend them.

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Our most common job would be tree pruning. Mainly thinning and removing dead limbs. We also do a lot of removals of unsafe or unwanted trees as well, but enjoy the pruning better as we get to see the nice finished product at the end.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Mainly to make sure the company is licensed, bonded and insured. We have never had to use our insurance as we are very careful, but I am sure our customers were more at ease during the project knowing that they were covered no matter what happened.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. With most every tree job, we will come out and take a look at the job first. We offer free consultation and provide our quote at that time. Usually a customer should know the basics of what they would like done. Whether they want lower limbs removed to provide more ground clearance, the height reduced, etc. That way we can come up with an exact price for what you would like done.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. We are licensed, bonded and insured to 2 million in damages. We treat every tree as if it were are own and take pride in the trees we prune.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. We love working in the outdoors (even in the rain or very hot days). It is very satisfying job every time we prune a tree and the customer loves it.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I have been in this line of work since part-time during high school working for my brother's landscaping company, Hillside Landscape Maintenance. Then I started the tree company and we still work closely and can give discounts to customers that may use us both at the same time. For example, if you would like trees trimmed as well as your yard cleaned up for Spring.

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. My brothers company (Hillside Landscape Maintenance) along with us were hired to complete a full clean-up on a home that was recently purchased. We had to remove quite a few unhealthy trees, trim a few others, trim all the shrubs and clean all the weeds and other debris from flower beds. It was a full day for the crew and the customer was amazed how it had transformed the whole yard.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I am a member of Arborday.org, and read a lot of literature all the time learning about the latest practices. This is a constantly changing field as they are always learning different ways of doing things and being more efficient at our job can keep our prices competitive.

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. Well, the latest development for my company is the purchase of our 65 foot bucket truck last year. It helps us get to more hard to reach areas and keeps us safe in more dangerous trees that the truck can get to.
