Introduction: I am currently teaching online, via Zoom or FaceTime. Our community of singers recently "gathered" for a very successful and virtual Recital! Please contact me with questions about how we structure and learn online.
I am a professional vocalist/pianist/educator with over 30 years of performance and teaching experience. Scroll down for information on performing as a soloist or with Grammy-winning guitarist Mark Hanson.
Students: My goal is to help you reach yours, whether just starting out or preparing for auditions, whether you just want to play music for yourself or get experience performing in front of an audience. My voice and piano students have in age from 6 to 70-something. They have interests spanning from classical to musical theater, jazz, gospel, pop and rock.
Voice:
I enjoying working with all ages: young, emerging musicians, adults trying something new, and seasoned performers wanting to move to the next level. Many students come with specific performing goals; others want to pursue music simply for the pleasure of it. Many of my adult students were told they "couldn't sing," or asked to "mouth the words" when in a school choir. It is a great pleasure to help these students claim and celebrate their musical abilities.
Breathing techniques and a relaxed focus are based on a classical approach for optimum vocal health. These techniques are then applied to the styles of interest for the student - pop, musical theater, folk, gospel, and classical. I work with each student to create an individualized program. Musicianship, including phrasing, expression, and performance skills, are naturally incorporated.
Vocal students are welcome (though not required!) to integrate a modified study of keyboard and or sight reading to enhance musicianship and musical literacy.
Piano:
I welcome beginning and intermediate piano students, ages 5 to 95! Most important is to find music that will excite and inspire.
With a background performing a variety of styles including classical, rock, pop, and jazz infused, I can help you find what you want to play. Artistry, comfortable technique, and accessible music theory are linked within the goals and interests of each student. Together, we will develop a customized plan that fits you!
