Question and answer
Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.
A. Virus removal. And data transfer from old computers to new computers. Networking issues are also a common problem with so many connected devices these days.
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Do they sound professional and pleasant when you call them? Do they take the time to answer your questions? Do they return your calls promptly? The lowest price isn't always the best service!
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. All the little tricks! When downloading a program or an update, don't let it install all the tool bars and extras you don't really need. And remember, Google is your friend. You can find lots of free information about a problem your having.
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. How long they have been in business, what experience do they have. Can they provide references? Are they insured?
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. Most times, a simple reboot or a power off will fix some problems. Some of the latest malware can be devastating to your computer and its information. Try and remember what happened right before the problem occurred.
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. Most places simply fix the problem that you originally had and then they are done. I go over the entire computer and make it run as efficiently as possible. If it's not right, I get it fixed!
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. The challenge, the smiles and warm welcomes I get when I return with my customers repaired computer!
I have met so many wonderful people. Most of my customers are like good friends.
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. Have you seen this problem before is one question. And I say, yes, most of the time. Another is, How do you keep up with all this technology? That answer is, I do a lot of reading and I get to "play" with a lot of new computers and gadgets everyday.
Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?
A. The computer that wouldn't turn on. (It was unplugged!)
Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?
A. That I spend long hours working to fix the problems on their computers. But I keep the price as low as I can. I am very passionate about my work and take great pride in what I do. I treat every computer I work on like it was my own.
Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?
A. As a kid, I always loved science fiction. Star Trek, Lost in Space, any show with a computer or electronics. So naturally, I had to have one and find out how they worked. Once that happened I became the family expert on all things electronic. So, the rest is history!
Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.
A. A customer called me at 10pm one evening. Their company laptop with their financial program had stopped working. I went to their home and picked it up and worked on it thru the night to have it back by the start of their business the next morning at 7am. They were so thankful! I even got a hug and a pat on the back!!!
Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?
A. I subscribe to quite a few tech magazines both in print and on the internet. Plus I work with several other companies. We help each other with new problems that arise and find solutions that work. Most newer computer issue fixes can't be taught in a class room
Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?
A. Computers are becoming so much faster and smarter. Smartphones and Tablets will become more common in everyone's life. From kitchen appliances to televisions, rapid changes are happening.
Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.
A. I have a very simple pricing system. All my parts, whether it be a hard drive, memory or a brand new computer, are priced at my cost. I have no markup on hardware. My labor is usually a capped amount for residential. No one wants to pay more for a repair than the price of their computer!
Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?
A. That your customers are the most important part of your business. Learn how to market yourself and keep your customers. Always do a job to the best of your ability. And go the extra mile, people notice that and will remember. They won't forget being treated unfairly.
Q. What is your greatest strength?
A. I never give up! I will exhaust every possible solution to help my customers with their computer or electronics issue. I want my customers to be satisfied with the work I do. And that includes after the fact. I am always available to answer any questions they may have.
Q. What are you currently working on improving?
A. Techniques for better virus removal. The bad guys are finding better ways to infect computers. Just having the tools to do the job isn't enough. Using them in strategic ways to outsmart the virus is challenging. So I have to find ways to outsmart the bad guys and get the job done.
