Introduction: It's not just the voice, but also the personality with the voice. My background in education (34 years as teacher of English, speech, writing, and media) and my experience as DJ and Master of Ceremonies at more than 1000 weddings has prepared me to keep the flow of an event going and to adjust and adapt to the inevitable glitches that occur. Of course, having that "radio voice" helps. I have used my voice as a singer, a professional DJ, a teacher, and an actor. All of this experience separates me from others for a professional smooth presentation. As a mobile DJ for 35 years, I enjoyed all of the audiences, and I felt as if I were honored as a guest and accepted as a friend by them. I enjoyed the relationship with the families of the brides and grooms and their guests as we celebrated their wedding days. As an MC, I enjoy the challenge of keeping things moving, providing the right information at the right time, and keeping the mood light. As producer of audio books, I enjoy knowing that what I am reading will help people to understand the book while saving them time.

We were thankful to have engaged Les Holliday, Holliday Productions for a recent wedding in Lancaster , Pa. The venue was somewhat of a challenge as it was scheduled to take place in a beautiful outdoor setting. The weather did not co-operate and, at the last minute,the wedding ceremony was moved to the front porch Les was so accommodating and so professional in the manner he moved his set up and re-arranged the program to work with the change of venue. He then had to move again for an indoor reception that went flawless. He is very patient and respectful and does a great job of helping to see everyone has a great time. This is the third time we have asked Holliday Productions to work with us and we have always been very pleased .We look forward to an opportunity to work with him again .

We had a wonderful experience using the DJ services of Les Holliday for my husband's 60th birthday. Les was very thorough and professional in preparing and performing his DJ services, as well as and keeping the party on track with different events through out the night. Les was also enthusiatic and hands on with line dancing, judging our hand-jive contest, taking pictures and getting our family and friends on the dance floor. I received a lot of positive feedback from our guests, of which many requested his business card for their future events. Les was a very important and positive part of the party. I highly recommend his DJ Services.

Pricing varies depending upon the service requested: Master of Ceremonies; Acting; Audio Book Recording; Voiceovers; and Singing.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Master of Ceremonies: I have a Master's Degree in Communication Studies from Shippensburg University (PA). I have been a presenter for educational seminars in Illinois and Pennsylvania and a keynote speaker and workshop leader at yearbook and newspaper conferences and seminars. Singing: I was member of the Wheaton College Men's Glee Club and went on tour singing both in the United States and in Europe. I have been a featured soloist with the South Hills Chorale (Pittsburgh) and a member of church worship teams as well. Voiceovers: I recorded countless commercials for WMRO-AM and WAUR-FM in the Chicago area. I have been the narrator for church and community-based programs. I have produced and engineered court depositions, educational slide/tape programs, etc. I taught Radio and TV courses and was the general manager of a high school radio station in the Chicago area (WDGC-FM). Audio Books: As part of my A.B. in Literature at Wheaton College (IL), I studied Oral Interpretation. As an English teacher for 34 years, I taught all kinds of literature, including how to understand the "voice" of the author as the piece is being read. My training in Drama and experience in the theater (post-graduate work), in professional radio (Chicago area), and as an actor in film (see web site for details) all come into play as I record and engineer audio book narrations.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Before moving to Pittsburgh, I taught school and worked as an on-air personality (that's what we called "DJs") in the Chicago area for 7 1/2 years. I taught radio and TV broadcasting and operated a student-run station in addition to working on the air professionally. When I moved to Pittsburgh, I decided to start Holliday Productions rather than go back into radio (despite several offers from area stations.) That was 1980. In the past 35 years, I have done occasional commercial voice work as sideline work for my mobile DJ business, and each of those jobs have been interesting and challenging. Now that I am hanging up my headphones from the wedding DJ business, I am dedicating my time fully to the MC work, the voiceovers, and the audiobook production.
