Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Make sure you verify that the design or advertising group is made up of professionals working in the industry. So many people have a few creative programs and call themselves "designers" when it really takes professional experience to understand the critical thinking behind strategic creative design. Also make sure both parties are very, very clear about the expectations and the deliverables of the project.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. You get what you pay for in this industry. If you want the best people working on advertising your company, pay the big bucks and go to a nationally recognized ad agency. Many companies do not have that kind of budget so it often makes a lot of sense to use professional freelancers, smaller design studios or ad agencies to guide their marketing and advertising efforts.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Ask to see project samples, references and start the working relationship on a small project so that if things don't go smoothly you don't have much invested. Always ask what the service professional specializes in before telling them what service you need. Be honest and upfront about all details including scheduling, budget and expectations.
