Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. I work on mostly injury type issues. Auto accidents, work comp, athletes who've been injured or seeking to prevent an injury. I enjoy the challenges of taking on clients who have "seen everyone" and have yet to get relief from their pain.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Make sure they are licensed in the state of PA. It is now a law. Also, make sure they are going to someone who is qualified to give the type of massage they are looking for. You would not go to a spa to address a whiplash injury.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. What type of education the therapist had to take to receive certification and if if that education needed to be updated or continued and on what level.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I take the time to sit and talk with the client to find out exactly what it is they are looking for. I go over parts of their lives and activities in detail to find out why they may be experiencing certain pain or physical limitations. Nothing is over-looked. From how they sleep at night (on their belly, side, etc) to how they may hold their child.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Teaching the client. Making them aware of their bodies and helping them realize that they truley have a say over how they feel and how they themselves can "fix" their own pains for the most part.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Do I need to take "ALL" my clothes off?
I tell them that if it's an area we are working on then that is best. However, if they are going to be so uptight about a certain piece of clothing not being on their body, then they may leave it on. If all they are going to be thinking about that the entire massage then it makes no sense for them to take it off. I need a client to be relaxed otherwise they are wasting their time and money.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I was always interested in sports, medical related stories, movies and books as well as having a desire to teach people about their bodies and how we can affect our physical health and well-being in a very positive way without much effort. Massage takes very little effort on the receiving end, yet if gotten on a regular basis one can reap huge benefits in most every aspect of their life

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. Client w/ suspected nerve impingement on his hand and fingers resulting in numbness and limited ablity to play guitar. Came to me for relief after 1 yr with no improvement from other treatments. On his 3rd visit to see me we were walking back to my office when he excitedly told me that for the 1st time in over a yr he could play the guitar without experiencing the symptoms that had gradually taken away the activity he enjoyed the most.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. Absolutely. I take seminars, read the latest articles, and take on-line courses to not only learn new modalities and methods, but to perfect techniques and styles of massage I already know

Q. Write your own question and answer it.

A. Do you volunteer your time or services to any organizations or charities within your community and if so what are they?

I have donated services to individual charities in the past such as the Peter Becker Community. I currently am participating in "Hands for Heroes" where I donate a predetermined number of hours each month to our Nations Veterans where the goal of the organization is to have a total of 1 million massages performed across the nation
