A. Is the engineer licensed in the state the work is being performed? Will a licensed engineer be making the site visit.

A. Most of our customers main questions focus on what will it cost to perform the services needed to complete the project.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. Owner hired a contractor to build a stick built roof over a great room, the contractors subcontractor set the shingles on the roof to begin applying the shingles. the weight of the shingles nearly collapsed the partially completed home and shoved the top of the walls out. After contacting us we were able to resolve the roof framing and stability issues. Best to talk with an engineer before making major decisions that really should be left to a professional.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. Wish they new the difference between Architects and Engineers as well as the limitations of a Contractor.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. Found the knowledge of the subject to be interesting and wanted to understand how things worked out.

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. Just completed a new underground home constructed from timber harvested on site, home is built into a hill and steps back from level to the next

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. With the increase in solar installations there has been an increased the need for structural engineers to be involved with alternative energy.

Q. Describe your most recent project, what it involved, how much it cost, and how long it took.

A. The underground home was 3000 sf and the work shop 1665 sf, the fee was $9750 for the structural engineering and construction documents and it took about 2 months to develop due to research and coordination and quality control efforts.

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. Generally we are working on a time and materials basis for construction documents normally we provide a lump sum fee or estimate and cost for additional service.

A. Study hard, get good grades and be prepared for long hours and challenging assignments.
