FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am constantly taking online courses and I subscribe to a ton of newsletters and magazines so that I'm being kept up to speed. The tech field is ever changing, so I feel it's extremely important to constantly learn about new technologies. Also, the best thing about being a technician is that it is a must to have the newest gear and I'm always trying out new programs long before anyone else. I'm always involved in beta testing so that I can be first to know about everything new in the field.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Mostly, I treat computer viruses. Unfortunately, there are a lot of unscrupulous computer hackers out there who are creating new viruses like crazy. Some are just minor viruses, which cause inconveniences but others are major viruses and can cause data loss and even theft of your personal information. I not only wipe out the viruses in a customer's computer, I teach them how to prevent getting viruses in the future and how to protect their identity so that things like that do not happen in the future. My favorite saying is, "I don't have any repeat customers."
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Seek honesty for crying out loud! In computer repair, the one thing I hate is when one of my competitors tell me that they fool customers into thinking the problem is much worse, in order to make a larger repair bill. I believe honesty is the best policy and I'd rather have my customers coming back to me when they need help in the future, rather than having them feel as if they were cheated into paying a huge repair bill. Everyone who deals with me knows that they're getting a fair price and the only thing I'm fixing is what actually needs fixed. I'm proud of that and the only computer technicians you should consider are the honest ones.
