FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As a Senior Lecturer at the University of the Arts, I am tapped in to an educational and musical community like none other. As a regular performer of a multitude of musical styles, I can stay in touch with everything musical in real time.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I began studying music at an early age.àTaking up studies originally on the piano when he was 8 years old, I quickly became enamored with the musical art form.àShortly thereafter, I was introduced to the saxophone, which became a new fascination - my study of both alto and tenor saxophones, through the esteemed tutelage of Steve Bowman, led to a deeper understanding of music in both classical and jazz idioms.àThrough the tenor, I was exposed to extensive opportunities in which to experience music: while in high school, I was a part of an award-winning symphonic band, played with various jazz bands, and was a member of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) 2004 All-State Band.àWhile the saxophone was for a long while my âÂÂmain instrumentâÂÂ, I soon found that it was not quite the right voice with which to express my musical creativity.àAfter receiving my first drum set, it was no question where my true passion lay.àThe drums called. Inspired by the music that I surrounded himself with, it did not take long for my rhythmic voice to come to the surface.àJohn Coltrane and Duke Ellington stood alongside Green Day and Incubus in my collection of recordings; the diversity of my early musical tastes would prove to be largely responsible for the stylistic fusion of the music I currently make. These experiences, and all of the fantastic instruction I received along the way, instantly triggered the need to both learn more and to share what I'd learned. Over a decade later I'm still learning, and can help you do the same!
