Introduction: As a performing act: The Memphis st. band is a group of professionally trained musicians who know how to make a performance fun for everyone involved. We will learn any music and play it with heart. As a teacher: I teach music because music engages the human mind, body and spirit as a whole and offers valuable personal growth. A student's enjoyment of lessons is important to me, as I believe the most efficient learning happens with enjoyment. I teach lessons that are tailored to fit a student's interests while including the important basics of music. As a producer: Listening to recorded music has given me so much in life, and doing the best I can at making albums is my way of giving something back. I love the moment when a student realizes that they can do something they couldn't do before. I love the process of experimentation in the studio, finding the right sounds.

Rather than echoing everything true about Thomas Deis and the quality of his teaching that all the other reviews are saying so well, I just want to say one thing. What I think you really need to know is that taking music theory with him is pretty much like being taught by an actual Jedi. Is there anyone here that wouldn't want a Jedi to be their teacher? I didn't think so.

Tom is a fantastic teacher! He has a wonderful rapport with our son and is patient and always constructive, never critical. Our son struggled with other teachers, but he has been with Tom for 2 years and has found a renewed love of music. Our son practices without being told to do so, and looks forward to his weekly lessons.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I read about music theory and I'm always finding new music to listen to. I'm currently interested in Indian Classical.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I deeply believe in music education. I have always had music teachers, and it always seemed satisfying to be doing what they were doing. I majored in Music Ed. at Berklee College of Music, and I've been teaching ever since.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I teach songs that students want to learn, scales, chords, arpeggios, chord melodies, music reading, music theory, and anything else the student is interested in learning. Sometimes, I teach music composition.
