Tenor Christopher Fiano is a recent graduate of the Master of Music in Vocal Performance and Opera program at Duquesne University’s Mary Pappert School of Music, where he studied voice with world-renown bass-baritone Guenko Guechev and mezzo-soprano Xiu-ru Liu. Currently, he is a student of Diana Walters.

Recent operatic roles include John Brooke in Adamo’s Little Women with the Duquesne University Opera Workshop, Richard Dauntless in Sullivan’s Ruddigore with the Pittsburgh Savoyards, and Don Basilio in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro with Undercroft Opera. Previous operatic roles include Marco in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, Marco in Sullivan’s The Gondoliers, Colonel Fairfax in Sullivan’s Yeomen of the Guard, and Dr. Blind in Strauss’s Die Fledermaus. He also has had the privilege of working with noted conductors such as Gary Thor Wedow, Nicoletta Conti, Walter Morales, Thomas Wesley Douglas, H. Carl Hess, Guy Russo, and Thomas Octave.

Equally at home in the theatrical realm, previous musical theatre roles have included Billy in Porter’s Anything Goes, Joseph in Weber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Sid Sorokin in Adler’s The Pajama Game, Fred/Petruchio in Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate, and Perchik in Bock’s Fiddler on the Roof.

In demand as a concert soloist, Fiano has been a guest soloist with several of the great choral and instrumental ensembles in the Greater Pittsburgh area, including the Westmoreland Choral Society, the St. Vincent Camerata, the Pittsburgh Baroque Ensemble, and the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh. With the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh, he was a guest soloist in the Pittsburgh premiere of Bernstein’s MASS under the baton of Thomas Wesley Douglas.

Coming from a very diverse educational background, Fiano also holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Music from Saint Vincent College, where he gained performance, conducting, and music directing experience through various musical and choral organizations, including The Company – the first student-run, collegiate theatre group in the history of Southwestern Pennsylvania, of which he rearranged Weber’s score for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and wrote music for a production of Shakespeare’s Twelth Night.

Currently, Fiano balances his pursuit of a music performance career by teaching mathematics and music courses at the Community College of Allegheny County (Allegheny and South campuses) and Penn State University (Greater Allegheny campus), where he also is employed in the school learning center as a Professional Tutor. Additionally, he works as the Director of Music at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Derry, PA. Previously, he worked as a cantor and section leader for Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg, PA.
