Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. My most common type of work is lawn maintenance and specialty design installs.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Keep looking. Don't choose a contractor on price alone. If you go with the lowest you'll likely get what you paid for. Shop around and get many quotes and designs and remember that the larger the company doesn't always mean the better the work.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. My designs are not found in books or with any template. Standard landscape designs, like those anyone can find in a book from Home Depot, are great for standard appearances. But when someone wants something new and unique they call me.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. It provides an outlet for creativity. I love the look on a customers face when a project is complete.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. "Can you do that?"

The answer is always of course I can.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. I wish customers knew that not all landscapers and designers put everything into a project. Once an install is complete, few ever return to visit the site because there really is nothing in it for them beyond payment. I wish they knew not all of us are the same.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I've always loved the work and after being discharge from the army had a difficult time finding work. I lost interest in the degree fields I studied in college and thought it would be great just to work at something I love.

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. Well, photos of the finished project are listed in the photo viewer on this site.

The customer told me she knew she wanted a rock bed and that it had to be different. Aside from those things, I had creative freedom and I took advantage of that fact. She got a design she absolutely loved for a fraction of what she thought it would cost and I got to digitally design and implement a concept of mine which actually surprised me when I finished.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. Of course. I follow several industry periodicals, interact with fellow professionals, browse for online courses, read books on the subject and more constantly. Its good business.
