"I launched Aromas Fine Catering with my brother, an accomplished executive chef, in 1997. For eight years, Aromas provided wonderful cuisine, excellent service and a tasteful and elegant approach to decor.

We learned that our clients wanted us to provide more than wonderful food. They wanted event design, project planning, estimating, subcontractors, a team of professionals and leadership to bring the event plan to fruition. I soon found that my education and experience prepared me well to meet my clients' expectations and a new firm was born -- Prima Eventi, Inc.

I take a disciplined approach to event planning and production. After training as an engineer, I believe in following a defined and documented process. My initial discussion with a new client is about clearly defining what is the purpose of his/her event and how he/she define it's success.

If the event celebrates a person, a wonderful and personalized experience that reflects well on the host and the guest of honor may be the goal.

If the event celebrates an acquisition or merger, then raising awareness of the new unified firm or bringing together two disparate management teams may be the desired outcome.

If the event's purpose is fundraising, I am mindful of both the top-line revenue equation and bottom-line profit. This requires an event that is enticing enough to sell tickets, yet carefully planned to contain costs."

Christine earned a Bachelor of Science from Carnegie Mellon University and a Masters of Business Administration in Finance from the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh.

Planning and producing events allow her to use skills that she has developed through her life, education and business experience. Prima Eventi is a full-service event company specializing in corporate events, weddings, receptions, fundraising events and social affairs.

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. I plan and produce weddings, rehearsal dinners, corporate gatherings, wine education evenings, and fundraising events for organizations in Pittsburgh and the surrounding communities.

Most of my clients request my help at the early stages of their planning and we work hand-in-hand throughout the planning process and on the date of the event and for the follow-up post event. I help them clarify the purpose of the event, help put structure to the planning process and help bring their dreams and ideas to fruition. If the client has a vision for the event, I make their vision a reality. If they prefer to have my help to envision the event, I provide a creative solution, then do the work to implement that solution.

Q. Describe three recent jobs you've completed.

A. I recently planned a wedding for a lovely young couple that were married at Heinz Chapel and had their reception at the Fox Chapel Golf Club.

I recently planned and produced a second wedding and reception at an outdoor location for a lovely couple at a private residence north of Pittsburgh.

I recently planned and produced a business event to celebrate the acquisition of a firm in Pittsburgh and to announce the new business lines that the new firm would provide to its clients.

I also recently planned an event for a law firm to entertain clients at the Vintage Grand Prix event in Schenley Park in the East End of Pittsburgh

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Consider what is important to you in addition to price. What would you like a planner to do for you and what would you prefer to do for yourself? Create a list of questions around these tasks and hire the planner that can accomplish your goals and has experience doing so.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. As an experienced event professional, I can help my clients to make smart decisions that save them money and time. I can also guide them to vendors that will do a great work and I can manage those vendor relationships to get a great outcome for the client while creating a strong team that works well together at the event.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. A consumer should inquire about the length of time a professional has been planning events. They should ask about the number of events planned and the types of events that the planner has experienced, e.g. corporate, weddings, not-for-profit galas, social events. A consumer should ask if the planner has strong relationships with vendors in the locale in which the event will take place and if the planner has experience producing events at the venue at which the event will take place.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I love meeting new clients and listening to them as they describe the event that they envision, then helping them to bring that vision to fruition. I enjoy designing an event that delights the client and their guests. I enjoy working with the many talented and giving vendors in the event industry.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Customers often ask what my services include and many would like to know the cost of my services at our initial meeting. The cost of my services is determined by the extent of help and support each client would prefer - so I explain that I must understand their needs before I can provide them with an estimate of costs. Then - after that estimate is established, they can purchase more or fewer services as they move through the planning process.

If a client would like to take on some of the responsibility for the event, I am happy to work with them as they prefer. If they prefer that I take full responsibility for the event's planning and execution, I will be happy to do that as well.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. I wish that my customer's knew that planning is not just for those that find events difficult or those that need help designing their event. I have many wonderful clients that come to me with their own vision and event design, then they procure my services to bring their vision and design to fruition.

Also - my job is not just to "paint a pretty picture"; my job is 10% creative and 90% making the "trains run on time". I spend a lot of time making lists and checking them twice!

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. I planned a wedding for a lovely couple that took place on April 12th 2014. The wedding was in a social hall at the groom's parish. This large hall was very nice, but the bride wanted to transform the space into something very bright and celebratory. Using lighting, linens, balloons and colored streamers, candles and flowers, the space was transformed and the guests had such a great time - they stayed until 1:00 in the morning!

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. My pricing is based on the goals of each client and time required to perform these tasks. I meet with each client - the initial on-hour meeting is free of charge - and listen to their wishes. I walk them through a planning document that serves as a template for an informed estimate. I then provide them with an estimate in writing.

Q. What is your greatest strength?

A. As a planner, I am extremely organized, attentive to detail, and I follow a defined and documented planning process. Educated as an engineer with an M.B.A. in Finance, my education and experience prepare me well for my work as a professional planner.
