Bio:
An accomplished vocalist, Evan’s approach to teaching is informed by his experience performing with opera and theatre companies throughout the United States. Venues have included Pittsburgh Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Dallas Opera, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Lincoln Center, Interlakes Summer Theatre, the Jerome Robbins Theatre, and Madison Square Garden. Highlights include performing Figaro in The Marriage of Figaro and Colline in La bohème, understudying the title role in Sweeney Todd, singing the national anthem for the NHL New York Rangers, and providing voice-overs for projects at the NYU Maurice Kanbar Institute for Film & TV.
Evan’s teachings are based on classical technique, with the purpose of promoting vocal endurance and power, as well as warmness and uniqueness of tone. Through his own performance experience, Evan has found that this technique can be shifted to fit perfectly into any genre. During his own training, Evan’s mentors have included Marlena Malas at The Juilliard School, as well as soprano Renée Fleming and baritone Elliot Madore.
Evan also offers tutoring services for subjects such as music theory, ear training, and sight-singing. Further offerings include dramatic monologue/dialogue coaching, whether the student is looking to secure a role or prepare for upcoming rehearsals; and audition preparation, which is done through an encouraging feedback process that inspires and empowers the performer.
Above all, however, Evan strives to help his students find their fullest sound, combined with freedom and healthy release, while encouraging artistic choices that showcase the singer’s unique and true voice.
