Introduction: As both a writer and a photographer, I strive to create stories with my images. Every image is the story of a moment, a memory, a character profile. I have a photojournalistic approach to my work that involves both candid photography and stylized planned images. My style is bold, vibrant, colorful and full of energy. I am proud of the versatility within my work that allows me to photograph events, portraiture, weddings, and food/product photography with the same level of quality and attention to detail. I have been working in the industry for over a decade, and I am always striving to learn new techniques and put them into practice. I like to tell people's stories through their portraits, I like to immortalize the significant moments in people's lives so they have tangible evidence of their own memories, I like to focus on small details and bring out the beauty in the mundane and the everyday life. I like to witness arts and culture that impact me as the photographer and the viewer in profound ways, and show that to others through my work.

I wanted portrait photos of my two adult sons and left the details to Emily's discretion (color, poses, perspective). The results were delightful! She captured the spark of their personalities in ways I had not imagined. I'm very pleased with Emily's work and enthusiastically recommend her.

It was a pleasure working with Emily. She was very helpful and honest. She was always open to feedback. Her pictures turned out fantastic and we loved how she retouched some pictures after delivering the pictures. I would highly recommend Emily to everyone and I can't wait to work with her again.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I attended the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts in 2003 with a focus on Photography and a minor in Creative Writing. This program was dedicated to fostering the artists of tomorrow through a selective process where the best young artists from each state were brought together to train for their future careers. I attended Corcoran College of Art & Design from 2004-2005 with a focus in Fine Art Photography. I studied at the Fleisher Art Memorial in Philadelphia while working freelance as a photographer from 2006-2008. I attended the University of Pittsburgh from 2010-2013 where I studied journalism as a Non-Fiction major, and photography through the Film Studies program.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

My father was an amateur photographer who gave me my first film camera at the age of 12. At age 15 I entered the darkroom for the first time and by age 17 I had already compiled my first professional portfolio of work which I utilized to apply to the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts program in 2003. Although I switched from film to digital for my professional work, I do still love to shoot film and work in the darkroom whenever I can.
