Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Festivals, weddings and restaurants

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Book early! My calendar fills up quickly.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. A lot of my inside secrets about playing the fiddle can be found at my website.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I've been doing what I do for a great many years, and beyond being a musician, I enjoy working with people.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I love entertaining and connecting with the audience through music, stories as well as maybe inspiring someone else to take up the fiddle and learn to play it.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. The first question when contacting me about an event is "Are you available?" After that it's "How much do you charge?" On the job they often ask "What's the difference between a violin and a fiddle?" Then they may ask, "Can you play...?" I have over 700 tunes at my fingertips.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I've been playing the fiddle since I was a kid. One day (when I was all grown up) I got hired to stroll and take requests for songs on the violin at a restaurant, then a museum, then a street fair... and there you have it!

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I'm continually adding new songs to my repertoire. I also teach. You learn a lot when you teach. And I record and promote my music so have to keep up with the latest developments in the music field.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. Get a violin and learn to play it. No matter what your age is, start now.
