Introduction: Through experiences in M.A. and PhD programs in Brazil and the U.S I have worked as a language teacher, translator and interpreter between English and Portuguese based on my prior knowledge of Spanish. I have received independent grants from the Fulbright-Hays and the Ruth Landes Memorial Center. I am the creator of the bilingual Brazil Culture Connections Podcast. (Link in bio) I also work in the performing arts and have experience with grant writing for small businesses, non profits and cultural organizations. Currently I am a postdoctoral scholar at Pennsylvania State University. BA in History from UC Berkeley (graduated with High Honors) MA in Ethnic Studies from the Federal University is Bahia (coursework in Portuguese) PhD in Anthropology and History, University of Michigan (2020) Book written and published in Portuguese with the Editora UFBA Press in Salvador, Brazil. Ruth Landes e a Cidade das Mulheres: uma releitura da antropologia do Candomblé (2019) Several articles written and published in academic venues. I also do public scholarship projects with archives, religious centers, universities, photo exhibits and documentaries.

Jamie's Portuguese is excellent. She has mastered the language grammatically and has helped me substantially with my Portuguese academic writing. In addition to her grasp on academic and professional Portuguese, Jamie's conversational abilities are equally as impressive. She sounds like a native and is able to speak fluently in both colloquial settings and formal environments. This makes sense since she has lived in Brazil for a number of years and studied there. I highly recommend her!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I evaluate the customer’s needs and communicate clearly with them how to reach their goals. I always evaluate the request and come up with a final budget after seeing the full scope of the job. From there we create a timetable that works for the successful execution of the project.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been educated through a Ph.D. and have excellent research, writing and editing skills. I have secured multiple research and writing grants and fellowships to complete my studies. I have also published articles and books and have experience with editing and revising manuscripts.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have been in education my whole life. I taught as an instructor at the University of Michigan as part of my PhD training. I also taught English classes in Brazil to adults.
