Introduction: I spend most of my time with clients educating them about the criminal system and the likely potential outcomes that my experience reveals. Clients, even those who been through the system multiple times DO NOT understand what may happen. Uncertainty fosters fear; my job is to shine a bright light on the process so the client can intelligently decide how he/she wishes me to pursue their defense. My clients are my boss--not the other way around. For me to perform my education function there has to be free communication between my client and me. My clients have my cellphone so that they have direct access to me when they feel the need. Any criminal defendant who does not know what is going on with their case is a poorly represented client. I most enjoy the challenges and competition in battling the Commonwealth (DA's Office and police) to achieve the best possible outcome for my client. My absolute favorite activity from a personal standpoint is trying a case in front of a jury, but that only happens if my client, understanding all of the relevant considerations, tells me he/she wants to test the Commonwealth's case in front of a jury. There are a lot of important considerations that should go into making that decision. My function is to insure my client understands them all.
