FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
We don't price like most other places. For on location support, training, or other work we charge $50 per hour. For Blue Screens, Mal-ware removal, and most other services in where we pick up and drop off the computer we cap the charges at $75 for labor. For an operating system migration, we charge a flat rate of $99. All new hardware is provided at cost. We do on occasion offer used hardware, however we will always present you with the option to choose between new and used hardware, if hardware replacement is required.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started off as a missile technician for the US Navy. After training, I was sent to work as an armorer. One day we had a computer problem in the shop. I was confident I knew how to fix it, however I lacked the permissions needed to fix it. When the ship's IT people came to fix the problem, they were unable to fix it. I told them what to do. They said no, my Chief insisted. When my solution fixed the problem, my Chief called their Chief, and I was assigned an additional duty working with the IT's. Responding to service calls, I got questions about people's home computers, and started fixing them on the side. A family emergency forced an abrupt end to my military career. Backed into a corner and forced to fight my way out, I started doing computer repair full-time.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Before hiring a provider, make sure you ask them what their policy is on backing up customer data. There are a lot of places that wipe without backing up, simply because they want to turn the machine around quicker. After all, it isn't their memories that they are erasing. Also, try to run some self-help techniques to fix your problem. We offer ask an IT guy on our blog, which allows users to submit questions, and we will try to respond with a how-to-video to solve the problem on your own.
