Ask about experience. A dog trainer is not really capable of handling fear or aggression without years of experience. An inexperienced trainer might be inclined to flood or punish fear, thereby making it worse. Ask about methods. A dog trainer should have a diverse range of techniques in order to treat each dog as an individual.
