SKS teaches a traditional style of Japanese karate to both children and adults beginning at age 4 and up. Our program incorporates fitness, self-defense, anti-bullying, stranger danger, diabetes awareness, anger management, peace education through acts of kindness, and project-based leadership training through community service. Character development is a critical part of our student's martial arts education.
Oh, and we try to have a lot of fun at the same time!
A. While price is important, it should not be the single factor in choosing a martial art's school. Please do not make your decision based on a phone call. A prospective student should visit the school to see how clean it is, whether or not it smells like an old sock, who is teaching classes and the general atmosphere of the class. You should also talk to other parents or students for their feedback.
A. Classes should be broken out according to age group. How you teach a 4 year old, is significantly different then how you train an adult. Make sure the school you are looking at has age appropriate classes.
A. What is the general timeline to receive a black belt?
What is the monthly tuition to join?
Does the school use agreements?
How many classes does my tuition include?
Are there any other fees or costs associated with training?
Who teaches the children's classes? The adult classes?
What kind of sparring is allowed? Full contact or light?
Does the school provide a character education curriculum?
A. While I am very passionate about teaching self defense skills that will last a life time, I have one of the most cutting edge curriculum's in the area that includes anger management, verbal judo, environmental self defense, anti-bullying strategies, stranger danger, healthy eating, Diabetes awareness, peace education through acts of kindness and project based leadership through community service.
A. I am passionate about helping both children and adults improve their lives, by developing better fitness habits, increasing confidence and self esteem, which normally translates in doing better in school or at work; and lastly, helping my students learn how to defend themselves if they were ever abducted or assaulted.
A. Part of my mission is to help as many children as possible, so I offer FREE workshops at my school on bullying, stranger danger and self defense for women. I offer FREE presentations in the local schools ranging from non-violent anti bully strategies to acts of kindness challenges to Black Belt principles.
