A. Look at the work and read reviews if they are available. You want to know that others were happy with your artist. You also need to know that they are sanitary and have developed a foundation for working in this industry.
A. I need to know how many actors/models/clients i will be needing to makeup and what the extent of the makeup application will be. Also, length of time or the time services need to be finished, location and if it's a photoshoot, what the theme of the shoot will be.
A. I have a huge passion to expand my knowledge in what i do. This means using the latest and greatest with makeup products and following current trends as well as creating new ones!
A. I've always wanted to do makeup! I love making someone's day! I'm definitely a people person and love that I am able to work with so many different personalities every day.
A. So many questions! I guess number one is what company's makeup do i use. I do not use any 1 company nor do i sell makeup. I sell my services to apply makeup and use what i have found to be the best for whatever the makeup case is at hand.
A. There is a LOT that goes into being a makeup artist. You need a natural skill of course, but also you need a lot of dedication to learning as new products and new skills will always be developed. You must constantly be doing research and interacting with others in the industry.
Another thin many dont think of is the cost to a makeup artist. Many think that the price an artist charges (and this go for all artistic professions, photographers, painters, etc) is all a profit for them. This is simply not the case. In order to have the best products on the market, you must constantly be replenishing your makeup kit. Also, you have to continue buy new products to make sure they are fresh. There is also a lot of time and money spent when not working ,developing relationships with clients, advertising, travel, etc. A lot goes into the determination of the price quote for a project.
A. I was raised in a theatre with my dad doing set design and my mom doing costume design! So now I ask you, is it any wonder i become a makeup artist?!
A. I try to lease things as uncomplicated as possible, however, different jobs simply vary the pricing because of the skill, times frame and product used. Please contact me and give all the details of the production and we can go from there!
A. Work with an artist who inspires you. You can learn so much from hands on experience. Offer to be an assistant in trade for them to teach you what they have learned.
