A. Today’s market place relies heavily upon the Internet. This is especially true of service and product based businesses and organizations. At no other time have consumers been so easily able to share their experiences with their peers about companies they deal with. Likewise, there has never been a time like now, where businesses (large or small) have been so readily able to reach out and build a relationship with their clients or customers. Seth Godin, one of the best current marketing experts, calls this ability to create an online community “Tribes“. Each of our businesses have a tribe that depends on us. Mine may be regional. As we begin developing websites for our clients, we look to tell your vistors your story.

So, what makes this company unique? Do they have a unique service? Do they have a unique history? How do they stand out from the rest? Again, Seth Godin has a term for this – it is “Purple Cow“.

Lets face it, you have most likely driven down the road in your community and passed farms littered with cows. As you drove by, you hardly even noticed they were there. Why? Well, because it is a farm. Farms have cows. Everyone knows that. And, well, a cow is a cow. Nothing special here, moving on.

Now, lets say you are driving down the road and pass a farm that has a purple cow sitting out by the fence. Well! Now, that is something to stop and look at. That is also something to tell your friends about!

Give these questions a great deal of thought. If you are able to put this down on paper, it will go a long way to making your presence stand out on the Internet.
