FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I research and read on clicker training, positive re-enforcement training and learning theory throughout the month. I am in contact with other service dog trainers who use positive re-enforcement to hone my skills and learn more about training specific tasks and I have become a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers to get even more educational material in my field.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have always loved dogs and have always wanted to work with them from childhood. It wasn't until I had to train a service dog for myself and was amazed at how rewarding it was that I realized I had found my calling.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I am currently boarding and training two assistance dogs for two separate clients. I also provide lectures to the community related to service dog selection, use and laws. I do home visits and personal one on one training regarding service dog task training. I also do evaluations of candidates to see if they can start service dog training. I work by building a solid foundation for the dog by teaching the consistent and crisp basic skills and then add the advanced skills needed to make the dog the best possible assistant it can be for its handler.
