Question and answer

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. I think the most asked question I answer is why does photography cost so much? The answer is not as apparent as some may think. Yes the equipment is expensive and now with digital photography, the software is very expensive. But the bulk of the cost come from market positioning. Market what? It has to do with the value of the image. Say that this picture of your "widget" is a 30 pixel square on your facebook page, we don't need to obsess over the details as closely, we don't need to dial in the retouching. It just needs to look clean and be clear. BUT if it's going on the front page of your annual catalogue, that's going out to 100,000 folks at 3 different trade shows. Then we need to spend a little more time on the photo. More time thinking about the message, more time thinking about who's buying, who's competing with you, then more time dialing in the lighting, dialing in the retouching, making it a cover shot. So, naturally the cover shot will cost a bit more, because of the time involved.
