Question and answer
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. First skip the big name companies because they have some of the worst tutors and teachers on the market. If you are not dealing directly with the educator, you are not going to get the results your child deserves. Schedule a consultation, it should be free, with the tutor. Make sure to bring your child so you can see how well they will interact. if the tutor doesn't have a large number of questions about past academic performance, teacher comments, study habits, etc. then you need to find someone else. Most important trust your gut instinct. Many of the parents of my students have gone through two the three tutors before they found out about my services. They all knew at the beginning they were not good tutors.
Finally, even if you desire in home tutoring DO NOT meet with education consultants, tutors, etc in your home for the first meeting. Many try to use that to their advantage in getting people to sign contracts for tutoring services! Remember, there are only a handful of tutors and teachers that are worth helping your child!
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. Most tutoring companies and tutors are sub-par at best when it comes to not only increasing grades, but instill self-confidence and learning skills necessary for future success. To put it nicely most are interested in their bottom line, not your child's performance.
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. I simply am the best tutor in the Midsouth market. It is quite a bold statement, but after hearing it from many parents, students, and teachers it is a fact.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. Helping students achieve their academic goals. I love the excitement they have when they make the grade they wanted on a test, get the ACT score they wanted, etc. I have had the pleasure of watching several students graduate from high school, college and pharmacy school.
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. When can we start tutoring? Usually within two days.
Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?
A. A friend need help in Biochemistry and it took off from there.
Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.
A. A student of mine had made a 16 on her ACT FIVE times in a row before coming to me. She was on her last time to take the ACT and had to make at least a 19 or she was going to lose her full ride scholarship. We worked together for 4 four weeks. She called me hysterical because she made a 21! She is the first person to ever go to college in her family. :D
Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?
A. I read several educational journals, government publications, and communicate with several educators on a regular basis. There is not a day that goes by that I am not reading about how to be a better educator.
Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?
A. Computers and specifically the internet has changed many things. The capacity to share such vast amounts information is incredible.
