Brandy McDonnell is the CEO and Master Instructor at BPS. Brandy first began Blue Point Stables by training and showing horses for clients in 2000 under the name McDonnell Performance Horses. Later, the name was changed to Blue Point Stables in an effort to reflect that additional services were also available.

Brandy then began instructing individuals with riding and showing lessons in both English and Western pleasure disciplines. When client's desires for other disciplines surfaced, Brandy was quick to accommodate those requests.

As Blue Point Stables progressed, other equine services such as stall and pasture boarding were added. We began hosting overnight layovers for traveler's horses.

Along the way, B.P.S. began hosting our increasingly popular horse shows (usually four times a year), always offering a full day of fun for all.

Blue Point Stables' summer horse day and night camps for young riders began in 2010 and really took off in 2011 and 2012.

Birthday and group event parties held at B.P.S. are rapidly gaining in popularity.

Here's a little about Brandy McDonnell:

Brandy has been involved with horses for over 25 years. Her love of horses drove her to choose a career in the horse industry. The early part of Brandy's career was spent on the AQHA (American Quarter Horse Association) show circuit. She has shown countless horses, earning over 500 AQHA points, several world championships, and she has been awarded the coveted AQHA Professional Horseman Award for Tennessee from AQHA and the TQHA (Tennessee Quarter Horse Association).

Today, Brandy focuses her career on teaching. Her students are young and old, beginners and advanced riders. She loves the thrill of seeing a horse and rider come together as a team!

We had my son's 5th birthday party at the stables. It was awesome. Parents loved it as much as the kids! The staff was very nice and didn't rush our time. Worth every penny! I am glad we shared our birthday boy with them :-) a special memory we will have forever. I now look forward to his lessons to begin (tomorrow)! I expect they will be just as awesome :-)

BPS is a great place. You always feel comfortable, Brandy's instruction: she is so astute she can see where you and the horse are and help you put it together. You never feel judged, always comfortable, and you always learn something important. They have excellent lesson horses, a nice covered arena, and trails to ride, and good folk at the barn.

My young daughter takes lessons with Brandy. Brandy is an outstanding instructor who creates a very positive, safe, well rounded environment for students of all ages. Her love for horses and students is evident at every turn. My daughter truly enjoys every minute she spends at BPS and we look forward to many years of instruction and fun at BPS!

Great horsemanship skills, lives on site so you know nobody will come in that shouldn't be there, beautiful and relaxed environment, no stress just show up and hang out with your horse or take lessons on their top flight string of lesson horses. No worries that these horses are going to throw your children.

Top flight stables. Brandy and David are fine people with big hearts. Brandy's skill with horses and instruction is second to none. Great facility with covered arena, open field riding, and extensive trails. "Barn folk" too are easy to get along with. Fine stock if you are looking to buy. C'ant go wrong.

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. At Blue Point Stables we begin with addressing safety. We want our clients, their horses, and their guests to be out of harms way while they enjoy their time with us. On the lesson side of BPS, we teach proper tacking and riding techniques on well-trained lesson horses. Our program advances at a pace suitable for each individual rider. We find that our clients have more fun learning in a relaxed, yet challenging environment!

Q. Describe three recent jobs you've completed.

A. We just recently finished our Summer & Fall Buckaroo and Horse Lovers Equine Camps. They were all a Huge success. Additionally, our lesson clients have completed about 1/5 of all the Lesson Packages purchased during our Annual Lesson Package Sale. We also recently provided boarding layover service for a prestigious Canadian Olympic team contender.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Become an educated consumer. Decide what services you want, the style of facility that you are looking for and the level of service that you are going to require. Finally, set a budget and look for the facility that best fits within your needs and means.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. How to communicate with horses. Horses have to learn to trust people. People have to learn to trust their horse. One good way to help the horse and ourselves to learn to trust and communicate with each other is... To reach inside of your chest, grab a hand full of your heart, pull it out and slowly, patiently and lovingly rub it all over your horse. Often, you and the horse will immediately begin to trust and communicate with each other in ways that will only continue to grow.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. We suggest that they discover the experience level of the facility's management and instructors. Finding out the regular and normal routines is always a plus. Not ever facility has the same standards. You may find some lacking. You may find some a little over-board. However, shopping around will help you to find one that "just right" for you.

Price is important as well. There is a wide array of cost factors so it's important to find out what you're getting for your dollar. Some facilities charge more, some less. Clients should find out if any additional costs provides any additional care or facility amenities.

Q. What is your greatest strength?

A. Our greatest strength is our love of horses! "Where every horse is loved" is not a slogan at Blue Point Stables. It is our motto, our moral guiding axiom. We want to educate the general public about the fascinating talents and intelligence of horses while we enjoy caring for these majestic animals on a daily basis.
