Introduction: I use modern technology in my very sweet home studio to assist you in your musical journey. I put all the lessons up on my 55 inch TV so it is very easy to read and enjoyable. We use iPads and smart phones as well and use multiple apps that make modern day guitar a lot more fun and enjoyable to learn.
I am very flexible with scheduling and cancelations as life happens, just txt me and let me know you cant make it. I specialize in those who already play and are stuck in a rut and need to find their way out. I am not the cheapest but if you are an intermediate, advanced, or professional player there is no one else around that even comes close to the quality of lessons and studio plus my years of experience, you get what you pay for.
We work on learning the techniques used by the most advanced players in the world so that neither hand or your fingers are never a limitation and you never have to second guess yourself on how to play a certain passage or anything at all for that matter.
I make sure you can comfortably read, play, and understand anything put in front of you whether it is written music, using your ear, or getting the musical thoughts out in your head. We use practical and usable music theory so you will understand exactly what is going on and how it applies to anything you are working on and how to quickly get from point A to point B by understanding exactly what you are doing.
I am a professional guitarist from Memphis TN who is also an honors Graduate of the Atlanta Institute of Music and I graduated AIM in what should have been my senior year in high school. During this time one of my professors was Jimmy Herring and I also ended up becoming Shawn Lane's Guitar Tech and Student for almost 9 years. If you don't know who Shawn is, look him up, he was untouchable and I teach you his concepts along with my own.
I started playing professional when I was a teenager and was fortunate and honored to have worked with The Late Ben Cauley during my teenage years. Ben was the leader and founder of the Barkays and the trumpet player for Otis Redding and the only survivor of the plane crash that killed Otis and the rest of the band. I have over 22 years experience as a professional and have been on countless tours with many bands in many genres. I also have worked as a session guitarist in some of the most prestigious recording studios in the world and have worked with some of the top producers in the industry.
I am the founder of the American Guitar Institute in Memphis TN and have taught probably thousands of students over the years and also ran a highly decorated music school in Memphis that was even honored by President Gerald Ford.
If you want to hire someone that has many years of real life experience and is highly educated and have a bunch of fun in the process and share many laughs I am your guy! I have a comfortable environment in my home studio that is located just outside New Albany on 161, not too far out of Columbus and a beautiful drive. From just about anywhere in the Columbus area you can get to me in 30 minutes or less.
I love being a professional guitarist. I have been all over the country many times over and brought joy to thousands of people as a player with many bands and my favorite moments are when I am teaching and a light goes off in my student's face and at that moment I know I have taught them something that will impact the rest of their life.
One of the coolest experiences ever is when you turn on The David Letterman Show and there is one of your students playing and a few weeks later the same student is on Jay Leno and the next week he is back in the lesson room getting a refresher. It is also super cool knowing that I have helped quite a few young adults not only get accepted into some of the top music colleges in the country but also quite often earn scholarships.
I love helping people and putting a smile on people's faces more than anything whether I am playing a show or teaching someone in my studio, that is worth more than any money I could ever earn and it's not just with music. If I can go to the grocery store and put a smile on someone's face who maybe buried their dog that day or got in an accident and maybe I was able to make them smile or laugh just for a brief second I at least did my part to take that person's pain away for one second and I live for that. Making people smile and laugh is everything to me and we need more of that in this world and less people being on edge and offended all the time but what do I know, Im just a middle aged hippie that loves being a professional guitarist and teacher.
