A. We recommend to ask for a copy of their insurance and also get a few references. Make sure to write down any question you may have about your trees and make sure the person seems knowledgeable about the services. Also ask what their work process will be like on the job. Don't always pick the lowest price but someone you feel comfortable with. DO NOT let anyone top your trees or climb them with spikes! Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Topping trees can and in almost all situations will kill the tree. If your getting your trees trimmed make sure the climber does not use spikes to climb in the tree this could damage and possibly kill the tree. Make sure the company hauls away all the debris because this could cost you more money from the city if they do not. If you believe you have a tree dying make sure you get someone out to look at it and if it cannot be saved get it removed as soon as possible because dead trees can be more expensive to remove than an alive tree and could also cause property damage. Also if you have a tree that looks diseased or has boring insects in it make sure you have it treated because the disease and insects will move from one tree to another. Healthy trees can increase your property value up to 15%. Fertilizing your trees can also help the length of life of your tree.
