Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.
A. The most common job we do is a 30 minute private lesson for a musical instrument. We also provide 45 minute and 60 minute lessons.
In addition to the private lessons we have done group lessons and well as class lessons in some schools. We are very flexible so if you have a odd situation we just might be able to come up with a solution.
The biggest thing is that we do the driving. So, it doesn't matter where the lesson needs to be, we will get there and do it. We just need the setting to be a good place to teach a lesson!
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Make sure you use a reputable company. Use companies that do background checks on their instructors and have a relationship with things like the BBB. That will give you peace of mind before bringing some random person into your home to teach you or your children.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. There are a lot of music instructors out there, some are good most are ok and some are absolutely terrible. Just because someone has taught piano for 30 years does not make them good, they could just be really experienced at teaching a bad lesson. Someone can be a phenomenal guitar player but that does not make them a great guitar teacher.
Our goal is to choose teachers who actually want to teach their instrument. Not a professional musician who is trying to make some cash while they are waiting on their big break.
Our teachers have the heart of a teacher and that makes all the difference.
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. How long have you done this?
If it is a company do you do background checks on your instructors?
Do you belong to the BBB, if so, what is your rating?
Do you make me sign a contract or have hidden fees?
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. Our company has won Best of Parenting for the last three years in several Parent Magazines across the Middle TN area. We have long term retention with both our students and teachers.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. I get to help enhance the music education in my community. We teach children the joy of playing a musical instrument!
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. What your rates? We ask where they live and give them the rate for their area. Our rates are very competitive.
Are your instructors background checked? Yes, every instructor goes through a thorough interview process and a background check.
What times do you have available? We have multiple instructors so we can usually schedule into your preferred time spot. It is always helpful to have a couple of times in mind though.
Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?
A. I have played piano all of my life, I have taught piano for the better part of the last 18 years. I really enjoy teaching the piano but it is tough to make a good living just doing that. I also had some other parts of my personality that I wanted fulfill.
I started Mobile Music Academy as a way to fulfill those other parts (running a business) while I can do what I love.
I also wanted to make a difference in my community and I think MMA does that. We have several students that would not be getting lessons if we did not come to the home. That is probably the most fulfilling part of this.
I also get to help some of these young teachers out there who are really good at what they do but struggle to find students.
All in all this is the most rewarding experience of my life and I could not be happier.
