A. It is imortant to develop a realtionship based on trust with your lawyer. Make sure that you have a letter agreement that sets forth the terms of the engagement.
A. Ther are a number of payment opitons, depending on the type of case. For example, it is becoming increasingly common for some legal services to be paid on a flat fee basis rathr than on the traditional hourly rate fee structure. Contingency fees are common on the Plaintiff's side in many civil litigation matters. You should fully explore fee structure options with your lawyer.
A. I recommend that you have a candid discussion about the prospective lawyer's experience. Experience in a particular area is not necessarily required. For example, I am not a banking lawyer but an out of state bank hired me to try a complicated case. I was hired becasue of my trial skills not my knowledge of banking law (the client was delighted with the result).
