Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Asking questions is a good thing. Questions are the only way that the customer learns things about fishing. Being a professional fishing guide, I get customers from all over the country. Each area of the United States does things differently, so asking questions about how I fish is an opportunity to get the customer in a more comfortable state of mind.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. I love what I do and that is more than some people can say about their paying jobs. Fish don't care if it is raining or the wind is blowing, or if it is cold.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Texas Saltwater Fishing Guides must be Coast Guard and Texas Parks and Wildlife licensed, ask if the guide is licensed. Renegade fishing guides do exist, they fish customer without being licensed, do not provide customer service, and give our industry a bad name. Do I need a Texas fishing license? Anyone over 17 years of age is required to have and carry a fishing license in the State of Texas. Does the fishing guide provide an ice chest with ice for the fish you will catch? There are a few licensed fishing guides out there that do not provide ice for the fish that are brought aboard. Ice is very important, keeping the fish iced down insures that they stay fresh.
