With over 15 years of training experience using positive methods, I offer customized in-home training and group classes. My clients include first-time dog owners with young puppies, people whose dog needs a manners tune-up and people wanting to successfully compete in agility, rally and obedience. I am now offering group classes at Praiseworthy Pups in Keller.
Below is a testimonial of one of my clients about the kind of service I can provide:
"Sarah has helped me train my very different dogs, each having their own set of issues. I have a prima donna that tended to do only what she wanted to do, a silly happy-go-lucky boy that wanted to please me so much, that any extra-finger twitch might send him flying off in the opposite direction and three rescue dogs.
One of my rescue dogs is with anxiety issues. The other one who started training agility at 6 1/2 years of age didn't enter his first trial until he was eight. And, the last one is with fear-aggression issues that made me wonder if he would ever be able to be trusted off-leash.
With each dog, Sarah used her understanding of training and insight into dog behavior to create individual plans to work through the problems. Sometimes her focus was on the dog, and sometimes it was on me, the handler. With her help, each of these dogs has been successful in agility, and her lessons carry over into everyday living." - Judy R.

Hera, my 5 1/2 year old English mastiff, and I have been really enjoying our rally classes with Sarah. Sarah has tremendous patience, gives excellent feedback to help improve our skills, and both explains and demonstrates how to do/train the behaviors very clearly. I hope to keep taking classes with her for a very long time.

I started training with Sarah about nine years ago with a dog that had her novice agility title and a CD. I was so impressed with her positive methods and her ability to solve problems in a positive manner. I have taught puppy obedience classes for over thirty years and did not know how to apply those principles to agility until Sarah helped me start my new puppy when she was eight weeks old. I have never had so much fun!
Sarah is excellent in establishing a strong foundation and building on it. This is a quality not found in all instructors. Do the ground work and all else follows.
She is not only a great instructor but really knows how to make her students feel successful, even klutzy ones who do not know where their feet are.– Maurine

Sarah has a wonderful, patient, demeanor which is great for dog training and people training. She has a talent in determining how to have owner and dog connect as a team. I am in the second course with Sarah and am seeing wonderful progress between my dog and I and I look forward to many more courses ahead. Whether you have a pet, a show dog, a performance dog, etc...these classes contribute to make your dog a better companion. Thanks Sarah!

Question and answer
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Meet with the trainer or talk to them on the phone to make sure your personalities and training philosophies mesh. And always ask for references!
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. Ask lots of questions. For example: What is your experience training dogs? How long have you been training? What training methods do you use? Make sure you are comfortable with the training methods used.
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. What are your goals for hiring a professional dog trainer? What results do you expect to get? If the buyer cannot accurately express their expectations it is possible that they will not get the results they are seeking.
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. When working with clients I consider the whole dog and realize that not all issues can be solved through training alone. I look at the dog's home environment, its health, and its developmental history in order to develop a plan to reach the owner's goals. I am a creative problem solver and believe that no one method works for all dogs. My training programs are customized for each client and I draw from my over 15 years' experience working with all sorts of dogs to determine the best solution for each situation.
Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?
A. There has always been a teaching aspect to every job I have held, from holding a formal in-house training course to simply helping others learn more about the software programs they used. When I got my Miniature Schnauzer 16 years ago, and went to training classes with her, I realized that I loved training her. When I discovered agility I was able to pursue both teaching and training--training my own dog and then teaching other students as I became more knowledgable and experienced. I love it when the "light bulb" goes on for either the dog or their owner when they figure something out. There is not much that is more gratifying to me than knowing I helped a dog or person "get it".
